Athletes from Russia and Belarus were allowed to participate in the 2023 Asian Games to qualify for the Paris Olympics

Federations of individual sports will personally decide on the participation of athletes from aggressor countries

Organizers Asian Games 2023 allowed to compete athletes from Russia and Belarus. Approximately 500 athletes received a general permit to be able to qualify for Olympics 2024 in Paris.

The international federations of each of the 31 sports that will be at the competition will independently decide on the admission of Russians and Belarusians. Athletes will compete under a neutral flag and will be prohibited from displaying any national symbols. Athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus will not qualify for the medals of the Games.

Earlier, the Asian Olympic Committee officially invited Russians and Belarusians to the 2023 Asian Games. It was proposed that athletes from Asia keep their licenses for the 2024 Olympics and receive separate medals.

The Asian Games in Hangzhou were supposed to be held in 2022, but the competition was postponed due to the pandemic. The event will take place from September 23 to October 8.
