President of Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe told that she was against Russian athletes participating in international competitions in a neutral status, including the Asian Games.
Earlier on Saturday, it was learned that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to participate in the 2023 Asian Summer Games in a neutral status and outside the medal count. The total number of athletes must not exceed 500 people.
— What do you think of the news of Russia’s admission to the Asian Games without a flag and without classification?
– I am categorically against performing at international competitions without a flag or anthem. I don’t know about offsets, it’s more likely that the countries themselves will do it. But above all, this is not the time to kneel before them with a white flag in hand.
– If the decision depended on you, and not on the sports top management, would we not participate in the Asian Winter Games in 2025?
“If my opinion is asked, whether it’s from the Ministry of Sports or the Olympic Committee, I will be against it,” Vyalbe told .
As the press service of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) told , Russians will be allowed to participate in the 2023 Asian Games if the IOC allows them to participate in the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024. The press service clarified that the final decision on the participation of Russians in the Asian Games will be taken with the cooperation of the IOC, OCA, international and Asian sports federations.
On March 28, the IOC announced recommendations on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. Recommendations include individual eligibility, status neutrality, banning team sports, and banning athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the CWO. A decision on the Paris 2024 Olympics will be taken “at the appropriate time”, said the IOC.
