Athletistic/Other. Dmitry Vasiliev, two-time Olympic biathlon champion, expressed his opinion on the information about the possible admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Asian Games, which will be held in the fall in Hangzhou.

They were supposed to be able to compete in neutral status with no chance of winning any medals, with the aim of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics. However, later it was learned that inviting Russians and Belarusians to Hangzhou would not possible only with the admission of the IOC to the Paris Games.

Vasiliev said: “I don’t see anything new in this situation. In my opinion, nothing will change until the general political situation changes. Now there is a tendency to declare Russia the main villain of the world. foreign athletes also began to treat Russian athletes with suspicion, distrust and even enmity.

He also noted that IOC boss Thomas Bach is very concerned that there is no real split within the Olympic movement. Vasiliev believes that Bach by his decisions divided the athletes into “good” and “evil” and is now trying to maintain the situation. In response to this, Russia announced the creation of alternative international sports games with fair selection principles for participation, without regard to the nationality and political preferences of the athletes.

Asked about a serious challenge for the International Olympic Committee, Vasiliev replied: “Of course. Bach tries to pretend to accept Russia, but on impossible conditions. Who will accept such conditions – without a flag, without an anthem, in a individual status “Person. I think what we are seeing is just an attempt to create the illusion that something is changing. It’s all cynical and fake.”
