Shakhtar’s coach about the draw with AZ
Head coach Miner Patrick van Leeuwen summed up the test match with AZ (3:3), and also spoke about the team’s training process at the training camp in the Netherlands.
“First I want to say that I am pleased with the week during which we worked in the Netherlands. The players are working hard to become better, more prepared, and that’s what came in handy in this match. We were hoping that some of the national team players would be ready to come here earlier, but Ukraine has been doing well, so this is a positive thing for Ukraine and a bit of a problem for me as we have fewer players. I think the players who played today showed themselves well, tried to do what we had been working on during the week. Therefore, I am satisfied with the first game and the first impression of the team’s game,” said van Leeuwen.
“The main task for them was to play together, to play as a team. We knew it would be tough because of the heat, but also because we didn’t have much practice. I told them to focus on team play, be considerate and support each other when the going gets tough.”
“Although it didn’t help today, we want to play fast football, combinational football, and combinations will lead to good fast attacks and goals.”
The next sparring in the Netherlands Shakhtar plans to hold on July 13 with AEK.
Shakhtar became the champion of Ukraine and will play in the group stage of the Champions League. In the first round of the new UPL season, the Pitmen will face Metalist 1925. The base date is 29 July.
