Athletistic/Other. Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Stanislav Pozdnyakov commented on Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Director General Hussein al-Musallam’s statement on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou as neutral participants.

It was previously announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete outside of the medal count. This decision was taken in order to allow the athletes to participate in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. A total of 500 quotas will be allocated to athletes from Russia and Belarus. The Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8.

“The OCA representative’s statement on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Asian Games is reminiscent of the IOC’s March recommendations, after which many practical decisions were not taken even several months later. At the moment , the Russian Olympic Committee has not received any invitations to participate in the Asian Games, and therefore it is pointless to consider and discuss hypothetical options.

There is very little time left before the start of these competitions and questions arise about the possibility of fully preparing the athletes to achieve the necessary results. This is without counting all the organizational, financial, logistical and other conditions of such a trip.

Over the past few months, we have heard a lot of speculation about the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to various international tournaments. In most cases, these words remained words.

Given the lack of details, we are treating today’s statement accordingly,” Pozdnyakov wrote on his Telegram channel.
