President of the Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation Olga Brusnikina believes that there are still more questions than answers in the history of admission to the Asian Games, so it is important to wait for the admission criteria, the decision of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports.
The Olympic Council of Asia on Saturday cleared the Russians for the 2023 Asian Games in neutral status and off the medal count.
– First of all, I would like to understand the criteria according to which we intend to authorize our athletes. So far, everything seems to indicate that we will most likely be allowed to enter in accordance with IOC recommendations. The second point is that this departure for our sport will have little qualifying value for participation in the Paris Games. The selection in synchronized swimming takes place in two stages. The first is the continental selection, which has already taken place at the European Championship. The second and last is the World Cup in Doha. Our international federation has not announced any changes to the selection system.
– If admission is in line with IOC recommendations, it is unclear whether the group will be able to perform.
– We still do not have an interpretation of the notion of “team sports” in relation to our sport from the international federation. These points should be clarified by the meeting of the bureau after the report of the commission created to resolve the question of admission.
Also, the start is late September – early October. The national team comes out of vacation in August and the question arises of preparing for such a short period. Here, of course, the decision is up to head coach Tatyana Nikolaevna Pokrovskaya.
Of course, we would like to compete with our closest competitor, the Chinese team, but for now we are awaiting information on the specific criteria for admission to the Asian Games and, of course, the decision of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports, because, as we understand it, we go to the Asian Games or all together, or nobody. So far there are more questions than answers to make a decision,” Brusnikina told .
