“Kolyada will be remembered for a long time, he definitely left his mark in figure skating” – Vaitsekhovskaya

Figure skater Mikhail Kolyada left his mark on the sport, he will live long in the memory of figure skating fans, said Olympic diving champion Elena Vaytsekhovskaya.

Previously Kolyada, 28, on the podcast Maksim Trankova “Free program” announced the decision to suspend his sports career.

– This is interesting, after all, human perception is arranged. I read the words Tatyana Anatolyevna Tarasova on the fact that men’s skating will not lose anything with the departure of Kolyada, and I understand that in my mind this is not very correlated with the number of comments and afterwords yesterday about the suspension of Misha’s career.

Everyone suddenly started writing about Kolyada, because there is no one else to write about? Do not think. Instead, people were hooked by the same thing I was: a belated understanding that a very extraordinary and brilliant athlete was leaving men’s figure skating. What we didn’t appreciate, it just seemed like he always would be and everything was ahead of him.

Tarasova is probably right in some sense: sport, if we discount momentary emotions, is not usually about losses. It’s more about the fact that a person is given a very short period of time according to the standards of living, and you have to adapt your life to it in such a way as to cause an epidemic.

The coaching profession, by the way, is organized in exactly the same way, except that the duration is a little longer. But sooner or later you still give way to someone who is better, stronger, younger, finally. And, probably, after a while one can say about everyone: not a loss …

That’s not the point, I think. And the fact that you remember someone, but forget someone, as soon as the person has left the arena. And Kolyada, judging by yesterday’s comments, will be remembered for a long time. He definitely left his mark in figure skating, – quotes Vaitsekhovskaya RT.

Kolyada won a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics in the team competition, he also won a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships and two bronze medals at the European Championships in individual skating. In 2021 he won the World Team Championship, in 2017 he became the silver medalist of the tournament. The skater also won the Russian championship three times.
