Everton defender – about the ex-team coach and adaptation in England
Defender of Everton and the national team of Ukraine Vitaly Mikolenko told what advice ex-mentor Irisok gave him Frank Lampardand admitted whether he helped with the adaptation in England and work with the coach of the Chelsea winger Mikhail Mudrik.
“I can’t compare Lampard to Benitez. I worked with Benitez for ten days and ten of them – I did not understand where I was. I worked with Lampard for almost a year. He is a good man who gave me the chance to play at Everton. You don’t just go out one match, you don’t get another, ”said Mikolenko in an interview with Marina Mashkina for Sport Arena TV.
“There was a moment when there was a pause for the matches of the national team, and our match was postponed. Lampard called me to his office, showed me a cut of my actions in the Champions League matches against Bayern and Barcelona, matches for the national team, and said: “Look, you are a top player. Few people in this team played at this level. You just need to relax.” After this conversation, I went to the next match in the starting lineup and then played in the base. He gave me confidence.”
“Did Mudrik help with adaptation and cooperation with Lampard? When Lampard took over Chelsea, both teams were not in the best position. Therefore, there is still a question of who should have been asked for advice from whom. Unless we both have Zinchenko. True, then Arsenal had already plunged into second place. In other words, not everyone was doing well. Everyone was silent.”
Note that Mikolenko did not go with the team to a training camp in Switzerland. The press service of Everton said that players involved in international matches or recovering from injuries will miss the training camp.
Last season, Mikolenko played 35 games for Everton without scoring. The defender missed the end of the campaign due to injury, but played three games for the Ukrainian national team in June.
