Navka on the IOC’s decision not to send the ROC an invitation to the 2024 Olympics: “I hope the decision makers will be careful”

Olympic champion Tatyana Navka expressed the hope that the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) will eventually invite Russian athletes to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The IOC announced on Thursday that it will issue invitations to 203 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) for the 2024 Games on July 26. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the NOC of Belarus and the NOC of Guatemala will not receive invitations on the scheduled date.

“Hope always dies last. This is not a denial. At the moment the invitation will not take place. We hope that reason will prevail. Yet people will remember that sport does not is not a question of politics. It is a question of friendship, love and surpassing oneself. I hope that the people who make these decisions will be careful and remember what all this is for, “reports the correspondent of according to the words of Navka.

In March, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that international federations, if Russians are allowed to start, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with the forces of order.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
