Lyudmila is the third Ukrainian woman to win a Grand Slam after the success of the Bondarenko sisters at the 2008 Australian Open.
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok became a champion Wimbledon 2023 in mixed doubles.
The Ukrainian performed together with Mate Pavic from Croatia. In the final, the duo defeated Göran Fliegen from Belgium and Xu Yifan from China.
The first set went to Kichenok and Pavich. At the tie-break of the second game, the Ukrainian-Croatian pair had a match point, but lost. In the decisive set, with the score 4:3, Lyudmila and Mate made a break and brought the fight to victory.
Recall that in the quarterfinals Kichenok and Pavich defeated the Frenchman Nicolas Mayu and Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan. In the semi-finals, Ludmila and Mate defeated Britons Johnny O’Mara and Olivia Nicholls.
Kichenok became the first Ukrainian woman to win the Grand Slam trophy in mixed doubles. Also, Lyudmila is only the third Ukrainian tennis player who became the champion of the Major. In 2008, Alena and Kateryna Bondarenko won the doubles at the Australian Open.
