Ukrainian performed in tandem with Mate Pavic
Ukrainian Lyudmila Kichenok commented on the victory in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon 2023. The tennis player performed in tandem with Croatian Mate Pavic.
“Of course, it’s an amazing feeling to be the Wimbledon champion in the mixed doubles. I really enjoyed playing with Mate. He is an excellent player. These ten days have become an unforgettable period for me, which I just enjoyed.”
“Pavić and I just work hard on our game every day. We both try to play aggressively. It works especially well on grass. This is the key point. We have succeeded in this tournament.”
In the final, the pair of Kichenok and Pavic defeated the duo of Yoran Fliegen from Belgium and Xu Yifan from China. During the tournament, the Ukrainian-Croatian tandem defeated the Frenchman Nicolas Mayu and Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan, as well as the British Johnny O’Maru and Olivia Nicholls.
Kichenok became the first Ukrainian woman to win the Grand Slam trophy in mixed doubles. Also, Lyudmila is only the third Ukrainian tennis player who became the champion of the Major. In 2008, Alena and Kateryna Bondarenko won the doubles at the Australian Open.
