Former Manchester City defender Mendy found not guilty of rape and attempted rape

Earlier this year, he was acquitted of seven counts of rape.

Chester Crown Court recognizes former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy not guilty of two counts of rape and attempted rape. The decision was made by the jury.

Mendy was accused of raping a 24-year-old girl in the bedroom of his Cheshire home in October 2020 and of attempting to rape a 29-year-old girl two years earlier.

Mendy thanked the jury for focusing on the evidence and not on the rumors that accompanied this case from the start.

In January 2023, Mendy was found not guilty on seven counts of rape and sexual assault, which allegedly took place from October 2018 to August 2021.

Since autumn 2021, Mendy has not played football. After his arrest, he was first in prison, then under house arrest.

On 1 July 2023, 28-year-old Mendy’s contract with Manchester City expired and he became a free agent.
