At the end of June, Khodykin, bronze medalist of the European Championship paired with Daria Pavlyuchenko, announced the name of his new partner. She became 18-year-old Sobinina.
Last season, Sobinina studied at the Angela Plushenko Academy with Ilya Mironov and previously played with Sergei Bakhmat and Nikita Volodin.
– Sergey Roslyakov said that he sees the prospects of quadruple elements in your pair. Are you already trying?
– After a week and a half of the first training, we did a quadruple ejection-ritberger. In a way, it just happened. After a good hat-trick, I tell Denis: “It’s easy for me.” Him: “Me too.” “Well, four? “Let’s do it! Tell the coach first.”
Earlier, when I asked the coaches about the quadruple elements, they were scared. Therefore, I expected doubts, or at least the words: “We need to take a fishing rod, put on protective shorts and knee pads.” And Sergei Sergeevich immediately approved of my idea. It was obvious that he believed: the quadruple is in my power.
– Aren’t you afraid to realize such an element?
No, I want to do it. After all, I often twist triple ejections with the body. If you hit the rhythm well, I immediately spin, and here it is – a reserve. So I have enough twist. It remains only to conquer the landing. It just needs more tries.
Recently, we’ve been putting a lot of energy into staging programs and we’ve put work on quads on hold. But they are always ahead! Even when we do a single triple lap, everyone feels like it’s almost a quadruple. That is, I twist three turns. Although now we are more tuned for a quad version, and for the next season we will be preparing a twist.
– In pair skating, there are different approaches to the quadruple elements. After all, they don’t give a huge point advantage, so many greenhouses don’t see the point in taking risks. Turns out quads are more needed for entertainment?
“I’m just interested in the feeling of flying. From the age of 14 I wanted to conquer quads, I have already tried with three partners. For example, with Nikita there was a quad-salchow and a twist,” Sobinina told .
