Shubenkov on the Games in Paris: “I am not worried about the decision of the IOC, but if there will be obstacles from World Athletics”

Hurdles World Champion Sergei Shubenkov told that he was more worried about the position of the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) on the admission of Russians to the 2024 Games in Paris than the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Earlier, the IOC announced that it would send out invitations to 203 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) on July 26 for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the NOC of Belarus and the NOC of Guatemala will not receive invitations on the scheduled date.

– Several years later. Eight is pretty much the Olympics, and track and field athletes have been tossed about in the wheel of history a bit more than other athletes. You feel how a person gets used to everything, even when everything is bad and there seems to be no light. Morally and mentally you are rebuilding, you are looking for new goals, guidelines and motivation.

The IOC takes a relatively loyal position towards Russia, in my opinion. Yes, it’s half-hearted, but I’m not worried about whether the IOC will allow us, but whether there will be obstacles from World Athletics. Our international federation is against Russia from start to finish and does everything possible to make it difficult for us to participate and admit. Our dismissals were lightning fast and decisive, there are no half-hearted decisions there. There is at least a unified position within the IOC, but the sports community is torn over whether Russians and Belarusians should be allowed or not,” Shubenkov told Loud on TV game.

In March, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that international federations, if Russians are allowed to start, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with the forces of order.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
