Athletistic/Other. State Duma Deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on the discussion of a draft law on the possible obligation of athletes to pay compensation when changing citizenship.
She noted that to date, there is no specific bill or text, only a discussion on this topic. Zhurova pointed out the complexity of such a law, as many people would take it at face value and ask questions about how to compensate for past years if an athlete competed for another country.
According to the MP, if such a law is passed, then athletes should include in their contracts a clause on possible compensation in case of change of nationality in advance. The federation will determine how much money was spent on the athlete and this will serve as the basis for compensation.
However, she also noted that it is currently legally difficult to compel athletes to pay compensation for previous years. Instead, you can include an additional clause in contracts for the future.
Zhurova stressed the importance of considering circumstances, such as marriage, and said these requirements could be applied in a more targeted way, especially to first numbers in sports competitions.
- Zhurova – about Sotnikova’s words about a positive doping test: “Now Rodchenkov will appear and say:” Yes, I knew that, but I hid it “
