Down-the-line.com/Athletics. Former CSKA and USSR national team footballer Vladimir Ponomarev has criticized two-time Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva for statements about her military ranks.
Isinbayeva said earlier that she would return to work with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the fall. She stressed that she was not subject to sanctions, as she had never served in the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the military ranks previously assigned to her were nominal.
However, Ponomarev sharply criticized Isinbayeva for her statements and called them meanness and betrayal, and for that she should be anathema. He expressed bewilderment at what she was doing now, recalling that the titles were given to her by the government for her outstanding achievements in sport. And the price of treason is his foreign property and accounts, which can be frozen and confiscated.
- Isinbayeva: “In September I will resume my activities in the IOC. I was not in the service of the RF Armed Forces and do not fall under sanctions”
