London will not be able to hold Olympic qualifying tournaments due to government stance on Russian athletes

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has removed London from the list of candidates to host the Paris 2024 qualifiers for breaking, skateboarding, rock climbing and BMX freestyle, reports Inside the Games.

According to the source, the decision was made because of the British government’s stance on Russian athletes. Earlier it was reported that to compete in the UK athletes from Russia and Belarus had to sign a ‘declaration of neutrality’.

– We are extremely disappointed not to be able to organize the Olympic qualification in the United Kingdom. It’s particularly frustrating for British athletes, who are deprived of the benefit of supporting their fans, a British Olympic Association spokesman said.

In March, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that international federations, if Russians are allowed to start, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with the forces of order.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
