The former defender joined the coaching staff of Kryvbas
Former defender, now coach Kryvbas, Vitaly Vernydub spoke about how he decided to end his football career.
“I think now is the right time to do it. There were a lot of injuries in the 2022/23 season – this is the first time for me. The body is no longer as ready for heavy loads as before. I couldn’t play one hundred percent of the matches in the Premier League.”
“I felt like I needed to take a step further. I did not want to substitute the coaching staff and leadership of Kryvbas. Sitting, being treated and just making money is not for me. Never would a hand or a foot have risen to do so. Moreover, the club’s management does so much for the team: in such a difficult time, when there is a war, they help us a lot, create excellent conditions, which deserves only applause.”
“I felt the time had come. That’s why I made this difficult decision. Now I work in the coaching staff of Yuri Vernidub. Even when I was playing football, I managed to take courses and get a license. Now I will help the first team with everything I can. I have a lot of experience behind me and I think that it will be very useful in the process of getting good results in the next championship.”
“We will work with defenders, including individually. I will also constantly communicate with the guys whom I already know well, and there I will become the so-called intermediary in this “buffer zone” between the players and the headquarters. In the process of communication, I can better convey everything to the head coach.”
“The team is still being formed, only the second year since we are in the Premier League. The first season was a kind of stabilization, entrenched in the elite. Now we must become stronger in order to be optimistic about the future.”
The 35-year-old athlete announced his retirement from football in early July. Vernydub Jr. received category B of the UEFA coaching license and officially entered the team’s coaching staff, which is headed by his father, Yuriy Vernydub.
Kryvbas took seventh place in the UPL-2022/23. In the first round of the new season, Yuriy Vernydub’s team will play Oleksandriya on July 30.
