russian athlete Elena Lashmanova who was deprived of 2012 London Olympics gold in race walking due to doping, has been tested 11 times for banned substances in the first six months of 2023, according to the Federation’s website All-Russian Athletics.
According to the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and the Independent Authority for Combating Negative Phenomena in Athletics (IAU), Lashmanova became the second most tested athlete in the first half, behind only Kristina Lyubushkina (walking, Chelyabinsk region), which passed 16 tests.
In total, for the period from January 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023, 1237 samples were taken from athletes. According to statistics, most samples were taken in May 2023 (300). Most often, urine samples were taken from athletes (922), then – samples for blood passports (287), blood samples (28).
At the end of 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recognized RUSADA as non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, Russian athletes were suspended from participating in major international competitions under the country’s flag and with other national symbols for four years. RUSADA disagreed with this decision and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which reduced the sentence to two years. Sanctions ended in mid-December 2022. At the same time, WADA has not yet restored RUSADA’s status.
