Chelsea defender Fofana undergoes knee surgery

The player did not go with the Blues to the pre-season tour and will recover in London

Chelsea officially announced that the defender Wesley Fofana underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery.

Earlier, the French footballer needed a medical examination, which confirmed disappointing forecasts. It required surgery. Fofana, 22, will be undergoing rehabilitation at the Club Medical Center in Cobham. The timing of his recovery has not yet been announced.

Wesley Fofana became one of the Blues’ most expensive signings in the summer of 2022. The London club paid Leicester £70m for him, excluding bonuses.

During the past season, the Frenchman suffered regularly from knee injuries, missing a total of at least four months. For Chelsea, he managed to play 20 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals.

The Blues, without Fofan but with Mudrik, traveled to the US for a summer pre-season tour. There, the Londoners plan to hold five sparring matches. Rivals will be Wrexham (July 20), Brighton (July 23), Newcastle (July 27), Fulham (July 30) and Borussia Dortmund (August 3).

Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League and did not qualify for European competition. The Pochettino team will start the new season on August 13 with a match against Liverpool.
