Athletistic/Other. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, expressed his position on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Paris Olympics and also called for the absence of discrimination against Russian and Belarusian athletes during international tournaments.

Bach stressed that the IOC is committed to taking equal approaches to the participation of athletes from different countries, and the French president backed the G7 statement backing the committee’s position on this issue. Many sporting events have already taken place in France, in which athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports took part, and so far there have been no problems.

Thomas Bach stressed that the IOC is committed to fulfilling its mission to bring together athletes from around the world in peaceful competition. To this end, recommendations have been issued concerning international tournaments, which have shown good results. The international sports federations concerned will take these conditions into account. Russian and Belarusian athletes compete as neutral athletes and strive to compete with the best athletes in the world.

Bach expressed this position during a roundtable with the media today, 18 July.
