The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation cannot deprive the two-time Olympic champion Elena Isinbayeva membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said the head of department Oleg Matytsin .
Earlier, Isinbayeva announced that she would return to work at the CIO in September, and also noted that she had never been in the RF armed forces and called her rank of major “nominal”.
– Can the Ministry of Sports expel Isinbayeva from the IOC?
– Absolutely not. The fact is that she does not represent Russia in the IOC, but rather represents the IOC in Russia,” reports a correspondent in Matytsin’s words.
In July, it was reported that the IOC Ethics Commission found no reason to punish Isinbayeva because after February 24, 2022, she had no contractual relationship with the Russian Armed Forces.
Isinbayeva is a two-time Olympic pole vault champion (she won gold at the Games in 2004 and 2008), bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, multiple world champion and holder of 28 world records.
