Shakhtar joined the pool of clubs that supported the UPL-TV project

12 UPL clubs have already supported the creation of the telepool

Director of Strategic Development and Communications at Shakhtar Yuri Sviridov reported that the Donetsk club decided to join the pool of clubs Ukrainian Premier Leaguewho supported the creation UPL-TV.

“We welcome the fact that there is competition in the implementation of TV rights in the UPL. This is confirmed by today’s discussion. We see that even not in full the rights to show UPL matches have value. This inspires confidence that the price of the product will rise in the future,” Sviridov said.

“The miner has decided to follow the path of UPL-TV. This keeps most clubs united and moves towards the concept of a paid model. Here we are consistent and confident that only together can we create a product that is in demand by the fans.”

Earlier, the TaToTake project reported that 11 UPL clubs voted for the creation of UPL-TV with broadcasting of Ukrainian championship matches on MEGOGO and other OTT platforms. Veres and Shakhtar had to decide before 18:00 on Wednesday. The clubs will discuss the final details on Thursday, the meeting is scheduled for 14:00.

The UPL intends to implement a project of its own media platform without clubs that have abandoned a single telepool. They did not support the possible creation of a common TV pool Dnipro-1, Dynamo and Zorya, which have a valid contract with the 1 + 1 media holding.

Last season, the media partner of the UPL was Setanta Sports. Five clubs refused to fulfill the terms of the agreement – Rukh, Metallist, Dynamo, Zarya and Dnepr-1. In April, Setanta Sports announced the termination of the agreement with the UPL.

The 2023/24 UPL season will begin on July 28 with two matches: Obolon – Kolos and Veres – Polissya (the match will be held in Zhytomyr). According to Sport Arena, with a probability of 99%, the championship will start with empty stands.
