World Championships medalist Burlakova says she manages to cheer her husband on in the team sprint after his race in the final

Track cycling world championship winner Yana Burlakova has told she has an algorithm to catch up with her husband’s last race after his races in competition.

At the Russian Championships in St. Petersburg, Burlakova became third in the team sprint. Her husband Danila won the gold medal in the men’s team sprint.

— Do you have time to encourage Danila in the team sprint?

I always have at least five minutes. I took off my shoes, put the bike down, caught my breath a bit, went upstairs, I was out of breath, but had to scream for support. So I have this diagram already drawn up.

How was your team sprint?

– Twice I went to third position, in the final – to second. Unfortunately, it happened that I had to urgently look for a rider for the first lap. The first year junior was driving – she does not accelerate and is still small. It was an experience. In the third race there was nothing to lose, we needed the overall result of the team sprint and decided to try to break the Russian record in two laps, like they did in the Saint Petersburg Grand Prix, but this time it didn’t work out. By then they were already tired and not in the mood.

– Even with all the castling in the compositions, the riders from Moscow dominate the team sprint.

– For me, it is better to build a very strong team (the Moscow team also won – approx.). Then we could compare the line-up with the result of the biggest international competitions, it would be worthy seconds, I think, in the top 3 of the World Cup.

– And why is the atmosphere not very good?

– It’s a pity that it happened that in principle, with good seconds with Dasha, we became third.

– Why are there only three teams in the app?

– In my memory, this is the first time. I don’t understand where the other regions are – Omsk, for example. It’s a pity for my Udmurtia, they don’t exist either, I don’t know why. In addition, the Tula and St. Petersburg teams are always connected here. Couples are stronger, but the number of teams in the app is less.

So now we’re third out of three – it looks terrible. They still joke that I was the third of three girls in chess and now I have another such title, but in cycling.
