Kovpanets on three participants in the application of the women’s team sprint for the Czech Republic on the cycle path: “We made the decision to unite in strong teams”

Head coach of the Russian national track cycling team Sergey Kovpanets told that the choice was made in favor of the quality of the rosters, not the number of participants in the women’s team sprint at the Russian championship.

The Russian Championship takes place in Saint Petersburg from July 19 to 23. A total of three teams started this tournament in the women’s team sprint. There were more participants in the men’s team sprint. The Moscow team won, while the awards took place a little later due to discussions with the final race judges.

– There were no prizes for a long time. Did you discuss a possible false start?

– Maybe there was a violation, but it’s so temporary. The rules of our sport are such that if the referee does not immediately record, announce the result, then it can no longer be challenged. For the second team, I understand that’s small consolation.

– Three teams in the women’s sprint – why so few?

– We came to the option of combining strong teams, and not so that one leader, the others are weak.

– It is impossible to declare more juniors separately?

– Then you need to change position, add age. There aren’t many juniors, but they will be.

But they are of good quality!

– Yes. Our juniors are good. In the men’s sprint, the junior team took third place, one participant there is a little older,” Kovpanets told .
