Italian Chekkon won the 100m backstroke world championship with a world record

italian swimmer Thomas Checkon won the 100m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest.

Chekkon showed the result of 51.60 seconds, setting a world record. Previously, the best achievement (51.85) belonged to American Ryan Murphy, who finished second on Monday (+0.37). The top three were closed by Hunter Armstrong of the United States (+0.38).

In the women’s event, American Regan Smith won gold – 58.22. Silver was won by Canadian Kylie Mass (+0.18), bronze was won by another American representative, Claire Kurtzan (+0.45).

Over a distance of 1500 meters freestyle, the first place was taken by the American Katie Ledecky, for whom this is the 17th gold medal of the world championships. Second was fellow 16-year-old Kathy Grimes (+14.74), third was Australian Lani Pallister (+18.81).

Romanian David Popovich won the 200m freestyle, setting a new junior world record of 1:43.21. Silver went to South Korean Hwang Sang-woo (+1.26), bronze to Briton Thomas Dean (+1.77).
