President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe told RIA Novosti Sport that she does not understand the decision by Austria, Germany, Croatia and Switzerland to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for the re-election of Johan Eliash to the presidency of the International Ski Federation (FIS).
– 15 countries have signed a petition. It was the day before the election, in my opinion, the day before the election. They set certain conditions. They didn’t like the way the election would go. That is, there was no “against” and “abstain” column, as far as I know.
Accordingly, they left the room, did not vote. If those counts had been there, then Eliash would still have won, as a large number of delegates voted for him. What is there to comment on, why are they having fun? We voted for Eliash, we didn’t leave the room,” Vyalbe said.
Eliash was the only candidate for the position.
The 60-year-old Swede took over the FIS in June 2021, replacing Gianfranco Kasper, who had led the organization since 1998, as the Swiss representative. The appeal from the mentioned countries was reported earlier on Monday by the media.
