Swimmer Vekovishchev says FINA did not ask him for a World Cup medal to transfer to other teams

Russian Olympic medalist in swimming Mikhail Vekovitchchev said the International Swimming Federation (FINA) did not ask him for a medal to transfer to other teams after his compatriot Artem Lobuzov was disqualified.

During the Congress in Budapest, FINA presented the medals of the Russian team of the world championships in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay races to the teams of the United States (gold of the 2016 World Championship) and Brazil (bronze of the 2014 World Championship). The medals were received by the representatives of the respective national federations.

– FINA did not contact me to return the medals. There were no official letters,” Vekovishchev told .

On February 11, FINA disqualified Lobuzov for an anti-doping rule violation based on data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS). All his results of July 27, 2014 are cancelled, the medals are withdrawn. Vekovishchev competed on the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay team at the 2016 World Championships.
