Rostovtseva: “The speed in the omnium has increased a lot even over the past year”

Russian track cycling champion Maria Rostovtseva said that since her first omnium title the speeds have increased significantly.

Rostovtseva won gold in the omnium at the Russian Championships in St. Petersburg.

— I had my first omnium title in 2019. And then the rivals were strong, and now. Especially now, rivals from Belarus have come to us. The speed has increased even compared to last year, everyone has started to shift into high gear. You go to the maximum and every indicator confirms this,” Rostovtseva told .

Her Marathon‑Tula teammate, Maria Averina, won the scratch. The race was held as part of the omnium, but was awarded a separate medal.

— We trained in Tula. In general, we have everything you need – we can train both on the highway and on the track, there is a gym, sauna and massage. Not the highlands, but the main part of the whole, the base, is. I won scratch in many places, both in Grand Prix and international competitions, but in the Russian Championship I won it for the first time. She missed last year because she didn’t want to risk Madison. Now scratching was a very important discipline, I love and respect it a lot,” said Averina.
