President of the Russian Cycling Federation Vyacheslav Ekimov said that the athletes of the Chelyabinsk region were victims of a road accident due to a combination of circumstances, they will be helped.
According to emergency services, an accident involving a logging truck and a car occurred on July 22 at the 13th kilometer of the Kyshtym-Beliye Egusty highway. The accident injured six people who were on the side of the road. They are members of the Sverdlovsk region cycling team and their coach. The victims were immediately sent to a hospital in the city of Kyshtym, in the Chelyabinsk region.
– It’s a coincidence, no luck. Judging by the information we have now, the guys were sidelined and injured by a rebound from a car accident. We can only wish for a speedy recovery, and I want those responsible for this incident to be punished. Unfortunately, such stories happen to cyclists. Our sport itself is traumatic, but when you get injured in such a road accident through no fault of your own, it’s very sad.
