“The result I achieved, no one will cancel it.” Interview with Yevgeny Rylov

Double Olympic champion Yevgeny Rylov in an interview with , he spoke about the preparations for the summer competitions, the lack of expectations for the decision of World Aquatics and the new statistics on pets.

– Did everything go well for the preparation for the Cup final?

– After the Russian championship, I fell ill for two weeks. I didn’t exercise at all.

— A serious failure in the preparation or salvageable in this segment of the season?

– I can’t say this is a normal story. It was annoying, but not so critical. In any case, it’s a training blow, but after that you can have time to recover.

– You did not go to all stages of the Russian Cup. For what?

– Before Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk I got sick, I did not fly to Irkutsk – the second consecutive departure with a long flight, I decided not to suffer such a load.

– What do you think with what results will they swim 200m backstroke at the World Championships?

– 1 minute 54 seconds. During the period when we are not competing, nothing has changed in terms of results in this distance – they swim like they swim. To be honest, I don’t care. I have always been focused only on my result, on working on myself.

– Are you going to watch the World Cup?

– We’ll see how it goes. Maybe I’ll look at some distances, the results, of course, I’ll look at too. The swims themselves are at those distances that interest me.

Do you like to watch swimming?

I don’t watch sports at all. Sometimes except at the Olympics. But I’m really nothing.

– What kind of show impresses you on TV or on the Internet. What do you usually watch?

– Sports, as I said before, I don’t watch anything. I myself am inside. I spend more time with my wife, sometimes I play computer games.

– So you are not a consumer of visual content?

“I don’t do it one way or another constantly or systematically. I can activate something to kill time or something to pass time usefully. By the way, I can see my old strokes. It’s interesting what that looked like. I don’t do it often, but it does happen.

– Are there any strokes that you don’t want to revise at all?

– 200m final at the Rio Olympics. Then I approached the start very badly emotionally, I was nervous, scared. I hate to watch it and re-direct it.

– Even after you all won the next Olympics?

“Still, they are unpleasant memories, and maybe they are even useful. I don’t want to go back to that yet, especially since the lesson has already been learned and work has been done on it.

— Do you think it is possible for you to participate in the Asian Games? I remember how you said in April that tolerances under these conditions are still not for you.

— There is no understanding of the Asian Games. If there is an opportunity, then why not, but as the ROC President said, there is not even an invitation yet. So I have absolutely no idea what it will look like.

If it is once again in the terms proposed by the IOC, I am not ready to accept them.

Do you want to sign declarations?

– Yes. I’m not ready to sign this.

– What do you think of the fact that a wave of changes in sports citizenship has begun?

– I think this is a purely personal matter for each athlete. Everyone makes their choice and I will not judge for them. Everyone aspires to an Olympic medal and for him it is the meaning of life. There is no point in condemning, life will show who made the right choice.

Isn’t it your choice?

Under these circumstances, certainly not. I am not ready to abandon the country for my personal gain. At the same time, I can understand the choice of others, the circumstances – people have worked all their lives. Don’t blame them for wanting to compete.

– Has the financial suspension of international departures hit you hard?

– Now our federation with the Ministry of Sports has leveled this. In addition, there will be cash prizes in Kemerovo, it will even increase the story with cash prizes.

— Are you awaiting the decision of World Aquatics?

“But that won’t change anything. There will be good news – I will swim and prepare for competitions, there will be bad news – I will swim and prepare for competitions, but on a different schedule.

– Do you feel like you’ve been cancelled? And if so, does it bother you?

– If they never let me go anywhere again, in any case it will be a blow for me – I was certainly not prepared for this at the beginning of my career. It is clear that in this case the international career is over. But my result cannot be undone.

– What are your plans after the Cup final?

– I will sail to Kemerovo.

– You didn’t want to end the season early?

– Maybe so, but sometimes you can’t show everything at once, but want to see the whole picture. Sometimes starts go better when they’re consecutive than when it’s all stretched out for 5-6 weeks. So we’ll see.

– Traditionally, the last question in an interview is about the number of cats in the family.

– There are 14.

– And the dogs?

– Three! One more. But I say it with certainty, I will never and never have more dogs than cats. The kingdom of cats is above the dogs!
