Frenchman Marchand broke Phelps’ world record in the 400m individual medley. Video

french swimmer Leon Marchand won the 400m individual medley at the World Championships in Japan with a world record.

The 21-year-old showed a result of 4 minutes 2.50 seconds The former world achievement belonged to an American Michael Phelps (4:03.84), he showed such a result at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It was the last reigning world record for the 23-time Olympic champion in the long course.

The second in the 400m medley at the World Championships in Japan was the American Carson Forster with a result of 4:06.56, bronze was won by the Japanese Daiya Seto (4:09.41).

The Aquatic World Championship is being held in Fukuoka, Japan and will end on July 30.
