World Aquatics President Hussain Al Musallam said the organization was ready to present a plan to create an open category for athletes.
Earlier, World Aquatics announced that an open category would be created to allow transgender people to compete.
“No one should be excluded from our competitions. This is why the open category committee was formed, the job is not done, they are doing a great job. There’s a whole range of topics here. But I am happy to announce that we have a plan for a first attempt in an open category. We will give you details soon,” Al-Musallam said.
In late 2022, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, announced that the Paris Olympics in 2024 would achieve full gender parity for the first time.
