Three-time Olympic synchronized swimming champion Maria Kiseleva in an interview with a correspondent, she expressed concern about the results of the World Championship in Fukuoka under the new rules, noting that the monotonous elements erase the uniqueness and individuality of a beautiful sport.
The World Aquatic Championships, which are taking place these days in Japan, were the first to be held under the new synchronized swimming rules.
– We radically changed the rules of the competition, and this led to global changes at the World Championships, – said Kiseleva. – At the moment, the result in synchronized swimming is a kind of lottery. Representatives of different countries stand on the podium, but, unfortunately, not always the strongest. In fact, a sad and depressing moment – the new rules led to the fact that almost all hybrids for all teams were the same. It’s boring and painful to watch. The uniqueness and individuality of each participant, team, country are erased. The beauty of synchronized swimming is fading.
“What exactly was wrong with Fukuoka?”
– It was the first World Cup organized under the new rules. With the introduction of coaches cards, certain points for each element, with these points reset in the event of inconsistency, with a new arbitration system.
But I am sure that after this championship some changes should be introduced so that there is no distortion like we are seeing now. I repeat, the links today in the programs of different teams and in different forms are similar. The same elements. It seems to me that this is deadly for our sport, where you have to attract, among other things, with new ideas and new elements, Kiseleva told .
Russians are not allowed to participate in the World Championships by decision of World Aquatics.
