In mid-July, it became known that 19-year-old Shcherbakova had suspended training due to mononucleosis. On Monday, the media reported that the Olympic champion returned to classes at the Khrustalny ice rink.

In August last year, Shcherbakova underwent knee surgery, after which she missed the 2022/23 domestic season completely.

– Until recently it became known that Anna Shcherbakova was diagnosed with mononucleosis. I am not very familiar with this disease and its consequences, but I believe that Anya is under the close supervision of qualified doctors. If Shcherbakova is back on the ice, everything is in order and she is ready for some charges, probably with some restrictions. In this regard, I have trusted doctors throughout my career and now, after its completion, I continue to do so.

As for Anna’s possible return to competition, I don’t think an illness in July could drastically affect her plans. If she planned to return in the coming season before her illness, then in two weeks almost nothing has changed. Again, I don’t know the effects of mononucleosis. I was unlucky to catch chicken pox when I was 20. It was the most serious illness in my life, and after that the doctors recommended me not to load for several months, because the blow to the body was very serious.

If Anna doesn’t have such restrictions, I don’t think the illness she suffered from will in any way affect upcoming rentals and tournaments. I think everything will be fine. If Shcherbakova is ready, we will see her at the very start of the season, Enbert told .
