American swimmer Ledecky equaled Phelps’ record for the most individual gold medals at the World Championships

American swimmer Kathy Ledecky twinned with a compatriot Michael Phelps by the number of gold medals won in individual competitions at the World Championships in 50 meter pools.

On Tuesday, seven-time Olympic champion Ledecky won gold in the 1500m freestyle at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, 17 seconds ahead of the silver medalist.

This award became for the 26-year-old swimmer the 15th highest level medal in individual competitions at the world championships. The 23-time Olympic champion Phelps has won the same number of gold medals in his career.
