“In skating, the guys from 1998-2000 are very good, while the current generation focuses more on jumping” – Murashov

Russian figure skater Yegor Murashov praised the quality of the 2022/23 Russian national season and also spoke about the differences between the current generation of skaters and the previous one.

– If we talk about figure skating in Russia, then, despite the restrictions that prevent our athletes from competing on the international stage, it was very cool. Imagine a show jumping tournament, the stages of the Russian Grand Prix… If we take, for example, the championship of Austria or Germany, then there is no such performance. It shows that people in Russia do their job very well, and they really do it with soul. This is the organization of competitions.

If we talk about athletes, there are new guys who show that they are really worth something, they are ready to fight for medals. I cannot name anyone in particular. It’s clear that there are guys who have proven themselves for a long time. The same Dima Aliyev, Makar Ignatov, Mikhail Kolyada, the guys who are in the national team. They are not at all inferior to the new school guys, let’s say, but somehow they are even better. In skating, the guys from 1998-2000 are very good. In the current generation, it seems to me, the emphasis is more on jumping,” Murashov told the “Championship”.

The International Skating Union (ISU) confirmed in early June the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in competitions under the organization’s auspices. This decision was taken in 2022 in the context of the situation in Ukraine.
