After a draw with American Hikaru Nakamura, Nepomniachtchi has 3.5 points. In second place is Fabiano Caruana of the United States with 3 points. Then there are three chess players who scored 2.5 points each – Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland), Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and Richard Rapport. Ding Liren (China), Teymur Rajabov (Azerbaijan) and Alireza Firouzja (France) scored 2 points each.

The Candidates Tournament, which takes place in Madrid, will end on July 5. The winner will play for the title of world champion with the current title holder, the Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen.
