The Dane defeated Kimberly Birrell from Australia
Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki won her first victory after resuming his career.
The Dane beat Australia’s Kimberley Birrell in the opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Monreale. Both sets ended with the same score – 6:2.
Wozniacki retired in January 2020 after losing to Ons Jaber in the third round of the Australian Open. Carolyn gave birth to daughter Olivia in 2021 and son James in 2022.
Caroline announced her return to professional tennis in June. After the tournament in Montreal, the Dane intends to play at the US Open-2023.
Earlier, Ukrainians Angelina Kalinina and Elina Svitolina lost in the first round of the tournament in Montreal. Two more Ukrainian tennis players, Marta Kostyuk and Lesya Tsurenko, will play their matches later.
