Marina has been performing under the Belgian flag since 2016.
Former Ukrainian tennis player Marina Zanevskaya announced the end of her professional career.
“For the last four years I have suffered from back pain and unfortunately I have come to the point where I can no longer give tennis what it takes to play at the top level. I will play at the US Open – it will be my last tournament in my career.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be back on tour or if I’m going to have another challenge in another area. I know for sure that I am happy with my decision and can exhale, and also look to the future with a smile, as there are many cool and interesting plans ahead.
29-year-old Zanevskaya is a native of Odessa. Marina performed under the Ukrainian flag until 2016, after which she received a Belgian passport and began to play for this country.
During her playing career, Zaniewska has won one WTA title (Gdynia 2021), one WTA 125 title (Rouen 2022) and 19 ITF singles tournaments. Last year, Marina rose to her highest place in the WTA rankings – 62nd.
