Volleyball player Matveeva: “I hope the Russian team will be allowed in the Paris Olympics”

volleyball player Russian team Polina Matveeva told that she hoped Russians would be allowed to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In June, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) extended the suspension of teams and athletes from Russia and Belarus from international competitions. It has also been decided not to display the national teams of Russia and Belarus in the world rankings for the period of their non-participation in the events, but their ranking points remain frozen in accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors of the FIVB from October 2022.

– How do you assess the chances of the Russian team to perform at the Paris Olympics?

– I can’t say anything about it. Everything will be clear as the Olympic Games approach, whether they let us in or not. But we hope for the best that they will let us in,” Matveeva told .

The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Russian national volleyball teams are not allowed to qualify for the Olympics.

According to the volleyball tournament selection system, six teams will receive Olympic tickets following the results of the qualifying tournament in the fall of 2023. A ticket was given to the French team as host of the Olympic Games . The remaining five Olympic places will be allocated to the top five teams in the FIVB World Ranking at the end of the 2024 Nations League Preliminaries in the following order of priority: 1. teams from continents without qualified teams; 2. best teams not yet qualified.
