Russian national team volleyball player Tatyana Kadochkina told that friendly matches and training camps are necessary for the national team during the period of suspension of international competitions, so that Russian athletes show themselves “in all their glory” when they return.
In Moscow on Thursday, the Russian women’s team beat Belarus 3-0 in a retro-style friendly against 1980s rules.
Did you miss playing for the national team?
– Of course, I missed you! At least with such gatherings one is nostalgic and one prepares for tournaments.
How would you rate the performance of your team?
– I rate it 10 out of 10, because we tried very hard and won.
– How do you rate the game of the Belarusian national team?
– Good resistance! The Belarusians show an incredibly cool defense. All the games of the season against Minsk, which I remember, were with elements of defense and counterattacks, which they demonstrated today.
— How unusual is it to play by the rules of the 80s?
– With such rules, matches become longer. The only problem is that if under modern game conditions there is more emphasis on recovery and counter-attacking to increase interaction, then with such renditions the emphasis is on replay and serve, because if you lose the serve, you lose your chances of scoring a point.
How necessary are these friendlies now?
– The value of these matches is high due to the generational change – we have to play together. The camps, although small, are very important to feel on the site. I hope that when we are allowed to participate in international tournaments in the future, the girls will show themselves in all their glory,” Kadochkina told .
In June, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) extended the suspension of teams and athletes from Russia and Belarus from international departures due to the situation in Ukraine.
