2010 Winter Olympics silver medalist in cross-country skiing Alexander Panjinsky told that the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) should not impose “silly” performance conditions on Russian athletes in international competitions.
Previously, the IOC Executive Committee had recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes be allowed to participate in international competitions only individually and as neutral athletes, and that only those who have not publicly expressed their support for the IOC and are not not associated with armed forces or national security agencies.
Is the performance of athletes in neutral status in the current circumstances a good option?
– It could be allowed without a flag, but without the stupid IOC conditions, where you have to sign a waiver of something. There is no need to come up with silly terms, as a neutral status will not be accepted by many in our country under current conditions. But this is not an option for cooperation. They must be sought in a dialogue, but there is no dialogue yet from the FIS, they have simply distanced themselves from us and our leadership. I’m sure there is some kind of informal communication between Elena Valerievna Vyalbe and the head of the FIS, but I think it’s not enough so far, and we have reason to be offended by them” , Panzhinsky told .
