Pole vault champion of Russia Polina Knoroz in an interview with , she explained why she couldn’t constantly climb great heights.
On August 4, Knoroz became the Russian pole vault champion. She crossed the bar at a height of 4.62 meters. Knoroz also holds the best result of the season in Russia. In June, at a competition in Cheboksary, she overcame the bar at a height of 4.75 meters.
— Is it possible to say that after taking 4.75, you crossed a certain psychological milestone, since you weren’t able to jump that high for a long time? Or are you ready to perform such jumps regularly?
– Considering my competitions, we can say that I regularly jump 4.60. But I’m willing to jump 4.75 and up. I have everything for that. It’s just that due to my inexperience, I can’t get my best jump back yet. All my attempts at 4.73 are excellent, but each time something is missing. I think it’s related to psychology.
– Are the emotions running high?
– They don’t go off the scale, it’s just that at some point the brain turns off. Up to 4.70 I jump all heights stably. There were competitions where I flew over 4.62 by a huge margin, but didn’t take 4.73. The difference is only 11 centimeters, how is that possible?
What does your coach say about this?
“He just believes in me. He says sooner or later I will take these heights. It gives me the opportunity to deal with it myself. I just need more time, more competition, more of jumps and I will cross that line. We have to sum up all that experience,” Knoroz told .
