The European Union supported the European ambitions of Ukraine at the summit in Brussels
President of the Ukrainian Football Association Andrey Pavelko commented on the news about Ukraine obtaining the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.
On Thursday, June 23, the corresponding decision was made at the EU summit in Brussels. Earlier, the European Parliament voted for the status of a candidate for Ukraine.
“Ukraine has officially received the status of a candidate member of the European Union. This is a historic event, and we are proud that our football family also contributed to its implementation,” said Pavelko.
“UAF, national teams and the best Ukrainian fans in the world every day conveyed a simple truth to European partners at all levels: Ukraine has been defending Europe from Russian military aggression for eight years now, paying a huge price for maintaining freedom, human rights and democracy in Europe, therefore it deserves full membership in the EU. But the main guarantee of this success is the courage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which every day repulse the invaders.”
The EU has also granted accession candidate status to Moldova.
Ukraine is on its 121st day of resisting a full-scale Russian invasion.
