Olympic pole vault champion, six-time world champion Sergei Boubka leaves the position of vice-president of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics).
According to the organization’s press service, at the 54th World Athletics Congress in Budapest, Jimena Restrepo from Chile, Raul Chapado (Spain), Adille Sumarivalla (India) and Jackson Tuvey (Kenya) were elected vice-presidents. Earlier, a source from Inside The Games reported that Ukrainian Bubka did not run for office in the last elections. He has served as the organization’s first vice-president since 2015.
Bubka won part of his awards (including Olympic gold) as part of the USSR national athletics team. He held world records in the pole vault indoors (from 1993 to 2014) and in open arenas (from 1994 to 2020).
Earlier it was learned that Sebastian Coe has been re-elected as World Athletics President for another four-year term.
