Kohan: I think the decision of the federation is very unfair

The athlete believes that he did not perform well at the World Championships due to unfair, in his opinion, sanctions from the FLAU

Ukrainian hammer thrower Mikhail Kokhanwho completed performances at World Championships in Athletics in Budapest, criticized the decision Athletics Federation of Ukraine (FLAU) about your disqualification.

“Well, maybe I should be disqualified again so that there is no experience at all. I don’t know what happened, it seemed to be normal, but something went wrong. Result? That fourth, fifth, that eighth place – it’s all the same. We need to get ready.”

Why was I disqualified? Because the federation suspended me from participation for my behavior, but I think this is very unfair. I don’t know who is to blame for this situation. I do not consider myself guilty, it is not my fault that this happened now. I disclaim responsibility, because I am absolutely sure that if not for this, it would be much better. The experience of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 was taken into account, but now it would be much better. But…”

“What exactly is the disqualification for? Athletes should not drink beer. During the competition? Of course not, after. When everything is tense, war, all this strains the nervous system very much. Therefore, it was necessary to reset all this somehow. Plus the competition, the European Team Cup was. It was very hard both mentally and physically. What can you do now. The World Cup is over, now you can go home.”

At the 2023 World Cup in the capital of Hungary, Kohan became the first Ukrainian to qualify for the final. There he updated his personal record of the season (79.59 meters), but could not get into the medal standings – the final fifth place.

Mikhail was preparing for the world championship in limited conditions. Back in March, the FLAU Council suspended him, along with his colleague Mikhail Gavrilyuk, from international tournaments (with the exception of competitions at the level of the Ukrainian national team) with the wording “violation of ethical standards of behavior.” The disqualification is valid until October 1, 2023.
