Brodsky: In our time, you can’t just take and not come to the national team, today everyone should give their people what they can and know how

The president Basketball Federation of Ukraine Mikhail Brodsky criticized individual players for not taking part in the recent OI-2024 pre-qualification for various reasons with national team of Ukraine.

“To say that we did everything we could … I would like more. I wanted to get to the Olympic qualification tournament, but it was apparently impossible to go through the national teams of Turkey and Croatia, who were determined to win and brought their best players from the NBA and the Euroleague, in our roster.”

“I would like to say a few words about our “Americans”. Skapintsev – I don’t understand you, Dima. Unfortunately, in my basketball school, they were only concerned with educating players, not personalities. As individuals, you grew up in your families. But it seems to me that you signed a contract in early August, after which you could get on a plane and fly to the national team. I don’t know the details of the contract, was there a ban on playing in the national team … “

“I can say the same about the Holy. Yes, I would very much like to sign a contract in the US or perhaps it will be Greece. Probably, playing in the national team without a contract is risky, but Kravtsov played. You are not poor people, and let it be on your conscience. Personal well-being is important, but the debt to the Motherland must be repaid, guys. I’m not talking about everything else.”

“How can you not want to play for the national team today, when peers are dying … I don’t want to say the number, we don’t know, but dozens of people die every day for sure … when children die. It seems to me that each of you guys had to do everything to come and fight for the Motherland … not under bullets, where you didn’t get by the will of fate, in particular thanks to basketball. Just to come, perhaps to risk injury, but to give our citizens, our country some momentary feeling of victory, satisfaction, joy. This is what you must do. In our time, you can’t just take and not come to the national team, as Medvedenko once did, today everyone should give their people what they can and know how to do.”

“I hope that this tournament in Istanbul will make us and you think about what is happening and this will not happen again. We have a good coaching staff – Ukrainians are working hard. Let’s unite somehow and we won’t do it again.”

Recall that the Ukrainian national basketball team lost to Croatia in the semi-finals of the Olympic pre-qualification and lost the chance to get through to OI-24.
