The only obstacle is if Saudi Arabia does not provide funds for the event
Eddie Hearnpromoter of ex-heavyweight champion Anthony Joshuais optimistic about the imminent conclusion of a deal for the fight of his ward with the former world champion Deontay Wilder.
“I think it will be completed in two or three weeks. I have been to Saudi Arabia twice to discuss this fight. I had two meetings, three meetings in London. I’m not doing this for fun. My instructions from Anthony Joshua: “I want to fight Deontay Wilder.” The only way this fight won’t happen is if Saudi Arabia doesn’t fight.”
“Shelly Finkel, Wilder, as far as I’ve heard from them directly, they’re in business. We’re in business. We just need to sign a contract and go through the procedures to do it.”
“Honestly, I wouldn’t waste my time flying around the world trying to pretend this is the fight we want. This is the fight we really want. AJ. We are sure. Like I said, we’re in business. If that can be arranged, we’re in business.”
If the fight does fall through (we are talking about the funds that the organization Skill Challenge Promotion of Saudi Arabia must provide for the event), then, according to Hearn, AJ will fight in December.
Earlier, Wilder’s manager Shelley Finkel expressed optimism about the future fight against Joshua.
In turn, the WBC canceled the order for the fight for the title of mandatory contender for the belt between Wilder and Ruiz.
The Wilder-Joshua fight is expected to take place in early 2024.
Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius in the last fight, which took place on August 12 in London. Deontay’s last opponent was also Helenius – the American won by knockout in the first round.
