European junior diving champion Alexander Cherepakhin says he has decided to postpone knee surgery and, despite the poor prognosis, he is confident of continuing his career.
Cherepakhin became the International University Sports Festival (MFUS) silver medalist in springboard diving. The first place was taken by Nikita Shleikher.
– Alexander, you perform at the festival, although you were going to have knee surgery immediately after the Russian championship.
– I arrived in St. Petersburg, they said to do it either in August or later, and in October-November restoration. I chose to speak here. I’m even very happy with myself, because because of the knee I didn’t jump in the group for six months. We tried it on Krugly, everything worked. As the national team doctor told me, the knee is stuck in one place, if it moves, I won’t be able to walk.
— What is the recovery forecast?
– If they sew up the meniscus, it’s been three months, if you cut off part of it, you will be paralyzed for life, every year you will have to do injections in the knee.
– It’s scary.
– It’s okay, many people face such problems and still jump. So I will jump too,” Cherepakhin told .
